March is Women’s History Month, and countless organizations around the country are sponsoring events to celebrate it. In recognition of Women’s History Month, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano will host the annual Just Desserts benefit and reception to honor some of the area’s most notable women and their achievements in the local community. Nominees for the event were accepted through March 2. Selected honorees will be named at the event on March 18 at Old Bethpage Village Restoration.
According to County Executive Mangano, previous Just Desserts honorees have been outstanding women who have left a positive mark on Long Island. This year promises more of the same.
The Just Desserts reception will feature samples of delectable treats created by some of Long Island’s top bakers, as well as a fundraising auction. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Safe Center LI and the Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The SPCA is widely respected for its tireless work in the rescue and care of animals that have been abandoned or harmed. The organization consists of a network of rescue staff, volunteers, veterinarians, and law enforcement agents committed to preventing abuse of animals.
The Safe Center LI is a relatively new nonprofit created by the merger of two successful and well-established agencies devoted to supporting survivors of abuse. A year ago, the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect joined forces to become Safe Center LI. In the year since the new organization formed, it has extended its vast pool of resources to all survivors of neglect or abuse: women and men, children, and seniors.
Employees of Rosicki, Rosicki & Associates are longtime supporters of the Coalition Against Child Abuse and Neglect, one of the precursors of The Safe Center LI.
